A اشراف ashrāf, s.m. pl. (of شريف sharīf), Nobles, noblemen, grandees, persons of high extraction, gentlemen, gentlefolk; honourable men; (in Rohilkhand, Oude, and Benares) a class of cultivators who claim certain
privileges;—adj. Well-born, of good family, noble; gentle, meek, mild; refined, courteous, urbane.
