A lengthening, an extension, a prolongation; the mark (ٓ) placed sometimes over alif, when the letter is pronounced long and broad (=madd);—a long vowel (as ا َ ā, or و ُ ū or ی ِ, i.e. ا, و, and ی, when quiescent, and preceded by the short vowels fatḥa, ẓamma, and kasra respectively):—madde, adv.
