شمار shumār

P شمار shumār [rt. of shumurdan; Pehl. oshmartan; rt. Zend hmar, mar; S. स्मर् (स्मरति)], s.f. Counting, reckoning, computing, numbering; calculation, amount, number; account, note, estimation:—shumār karnā, v.t. To number, reckon, count, compute, enumerate; to regard; to include (in, -meṅ), to take into account; to think anything of:—shumār-kunanda, s.m. (in Arith.) The numerator of a fraction:—shumār-navīs, s.m. An accountant; a registrar:—be-shumār, adj. Beyond calculation, innumerable, incalculable:—kisī shumār-meṅ nahīṅ, adv. Of no account.

A شمر shimar, s.m. Name of one of Yazīd's generals who slew Husain in the plains of Karbalā;—(hence) adj. Merciless, wicked, vile, infamous.
