صوفي ṣūfī

A صوفي ṣūfī, adj. Woollen;—wise, intelligent; pious, devout;—s.m. A ṣūfī or one of a peculiar sect of Moḥammadan devotees so called (they are said to be freethinkers or pantheists in matters of religion: outwardly they conform to the Moḥammadan creed, but are looked upon with great suspicion by the more orthodox. The name is probably derived from the Gr. σοφὸς; but some connect it with the ṣūfī or. woollen garments worn by this class of devotees);—a deist;—a dancing dervish;—an abstemious person.

The occupant of ground which is simply in the neighbourhood of another estate:—shafīʻ-ě-ḵẖalīt̤, s.m. The occupant of ground in actual contact, or intermixed with, another estate (the right of pre-emption is stronger in the latter than in the former case).

To make smack-smooth, to lick (a platter) perfectly clean; to make a clean shave of, to shave clean.
