love is needlessly defamed that for vision it is keen
beauty is impatient too for its splendour to be seen

husn KHud be-tab hai jalwa dikhane ke liye
kabhī kabhī safar-e-zindagī se ruuTh ke ham
tire ḳhayāl ke saa.e meñ baiTh jaate haiñ
kabhi kabhi safar-e-zindagi se ruTh ke hum
tere KHayal ke sae mein baiTh jate hain
aa.e the hañste khelte mai-ḳhāne meñ 'firāq'
jab pī chuke sharāb to sanjīda ho ga.e
we came to the tavern all gay and frolicsome
now having drunk the wine, somber have become
aae the hanste khelte mai-KHane mein 'firaq'
jab pi chuke sharab to sanjida ho gae
burā ho ā.īñe tirā maiñ kaun huuñ na khul sakā
mujhī ko pesh kar diyā gayā mirī misāl meñ
bura ho aaine tera main kaun hun na khul saka
mujhi ko pesh kar diya gaya meri misal mein
tum takalluf ko bhī iḳhlās samajhte ho 'farāz'
dost hotā nahīñ har haath milāne vaalā
tum takalluf ko bhi iKHlas samajhte ho 'faraaz'
dost hota nahin har hath milane wala
