Baba Jamal Bahraichi, whose real name was Maulana Jamaluddin Ahmad, was born in 1901 in Bahraich and passed away there on 14 February 1982. He was a distinguished Islamic scholar, a warm-hearted poet, and an active freedom fighter. He received his early education at Jamia Masoodia Noorul Uloom, Bahraich, which was an important centre of the Indian freedom movement during that period. In poetry, he received guidance from Hakim Syed Wilayat Husain Wasl Neotnavi Bahraichi.

Baba Jamal Bahraichi was regarded as a distinguished ustad poet of Urdu literature. Among his notable disciples were Sahitya Akademi Award-winning poet Anbar Bahraichi, Shayar Jamali, Razmi Bahraichi, and Nemat Bahraichi. His poetry reflects patriotism, moral values, and a deep connection with the classical poetic tradition.

His poetry collection “Sada-e-Watan” was published posthumously in August 2022, edited by Junaid Ahmad Noor, introducing his literary legacy to a new generation of readers.
