Profile of Dr. Abid Moiz
Identity: Humorist, physician, nutrition expert, and author of medical literature
Dr. Abid Moez was born on 25 January 1955 in Hyderabad. He received both his primary and higher education in the same city. In 1979, he earned his MBBS degree from Osmania Medical College, Osmania University, and later completed a Master’s degree in Nutrition in 1985 from the National Institute of Nutrition and Osmania University.
Dr. Abid Moez began his professional career in the Health Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh as a Civil Assistant Surgeon. From 1982 to 1985, he served as a Medical Officer in prisons and the High Court. In 1987, he moved to Saudi Arabia, where he worked with the Ministry of Health in Riyadh as a specialist physician and nutrition expert until August 2010. After returning to India, he settled in Hyderabad and became actively involved in writing, editing, and social activities.
Alongside his medical career, Dr. Abid Moez established a distinct identity in Urdu literature, especially in satire and humor writing. More than thirty-five of his books have been published so far, including twenty-two books on health, medicine, and nutrition, and thirteen books on satire and humor. One of his books has also been published in English. His writings are marked by wit, sharp observation, social awareness, and a reformative spirit.
In recognition of his literary contributions, he has been honored by the Urdu Academy of Andhra Pradesh, the West Bengal Urdu Academy, and the Telangana State Urdu Academy. M.Phil. and Ph.D. dissertations on his personality and literary achievements have also been completed at the University of Hyderabad. The monthly magazine Shagoofa published a special “Abid Moez Number” in 2008, while the Mumbai-based literary magazine Shair dedicated a special issue to him in 2017.
