Dr. Rana Haidari is a distinguished Urdu poet, researcher, and academic. She was born on 17 April 1945 in Secunderabad, Telangana, and her ancestral home is in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Her father, Ghulam Muhammad Khan, popularly known as G. M. Khan, came to the Deccan for employment and was associated with Deccan Radio Service in Hyderabad and Aurangabad. Rana Haidari began writing poetry while she was still in the eighth grade. She received her education in Aurangabad and, after completing her M.A. in Urdu, joined Maulana Azad College, Aurangabad, as an Urdu lecturer in 1971. During her teaching career, she earned a Ph.D. from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University for her research on “Sikandar Ali Wajd: Fan-o-Shakhsiyat.” When the university’s Urdu Department was formally established in 1999, she became its first Head and Reader. Her major works include Aaine, Roop Ras, Sikandar Ali Wajd: Hayat-o-Shayari, and Hadith-e-Dil. She is particularly recognised for her contribution to Urdu poetry, literary research, and teaching.
