Profile of Faheema Khalid
Identity: Faheema Mirza whose writings reflect human emotions, displacement, lived experiences and keen observations of society and life.
Faheema Khalid writes in the literary world under the name Faheema Mirza. She was born on 6 November 1957. She developed a keen interest in literature from an early age and began writing poetry during her school years, where opportunities to recite her poems at school functions encouraged her creative pursuits. Growing up in a literary environment at home further strengthened her inclination towards literature. Her maternal uncle, Azim Muawiya, was a renowned scholar, teacher and literary thinker. The frequent visits of prominent literary figures to their home and the literary gatherings held there gave her an early and close exposure to the literary world.
A significant part of Faheema Mirza’s life and education was spent in Kuwait. Despite limited educational resources there, she completed her B.A. During her years in Kuwait, she continued to participate in poetry gatherings and remained actively connected with literary circles. In 1990, during the Kuwait-Iraq War, she had to leave Kuwait abruptly. In this sudden displacement, much of her lifelong written work and literary material was left behind. After returning to Pakistan, it took her several years to rebuild her life and resume her literary journey.
Her first poetry collection, Insaan Be-Farokht, was published in 2023. Her novel Shab-Gazida Aankhen was published in early 2026. She has also completed a travelogue, Zakho Ka Aasman, which is based on her experiences and observations during her journey by land from Kuwait through Iraq, Turkey and Iran. The book is scheduled for publication soon.
Alongside her literary pursuits, Faheema Mirza received training in fashion designing and beauty therapy in London and pursued these fields professionally for a considerable period. However, owing to her deep commitment to poetry and literature, she eventually devoted herself entirely to literary writing and creative work.
