Syed Mahmood Hasan (Alig) was a distinguished educational, religious, and social figure from Bahraich. He received his education from Aligarh Muslim University and later became a well-known lawyer in Bahraich. Alongside his legal profession, he remained actively involved in religious and social service. He was a disciple of Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi and maintained a deep connection with Islamic scholarship and spiritual thought.
Syed Mahmood Hasan held several important positions during his lifetime. He served as the Receiver and President of the Administrative Committee of Dargah Sharif Bahraich, Manager of Azad Inter College Bahraich, President of the Bahraich District Bar Association, and a founding member of the Deeni Taleemi Council.
He was also the author of “Quran Kareem Ki Back Readers.” His life reflected a blend of scholarship, integrity, religious devotion, and public service.
He passed away in Makkah Mukarramah during Hajj. His family includes Professor Tahir Mahmood, Syed Khalid Mahmood, Syed Zafar Mahmood, and his nephew Dr. Saif Mahmood.
