There was a contemporary rivalry between Mir and Sauda. When Sauda wrote this couplet, Mir replied it with 'Taraf hona mira mushkil hai Mir is sher ke fan mein, yunhii sauda kabhuu hotaa hai so jahil hai kya jane'.

honā hai tujh ko 'mīr' se ustād kī taraf
