آج پھر چاند اس نے مانگا ہے
چاند کا داغ پھر چھپانا ہے
Once again he has asked for the moon
The scar in the moon must again be hidden
چاند کا حسن تو ہے لا ثانی
پھر بھی کتنا فلک پہ تنہا ہے
The beauty of the moon is without compare
Yet it is so lonesome in the skies
کاش کچھ اور مانگتا مجھ سے
چاند خود گردشوں کا مارا ہے
If only you had asked me for something else
The moon is caught in its own turmoil
دور ہے چاند اس زمیں سے بہت
پھر بھی ہر شب طواف کرتا ہے
The moon is far, far away from this world
Yet every night it is spinning around in circles
بستیوں سے نکل کے صحرا میں
جستجو کس کی روز کرتا ہے
Coming out of the neighbourhoods to go into the wilderness
In whose search does he go night agter night
کس خطا کی سزا ملی اس کو
کس لیے روز گھٹتا بڑھتا ہے
For what fault is he being so punished
That he must wax and wane every night
چاند سے یہ زمیں نہیں تنہا
اے فلک تو بھی جگمگایا ہے
The earth is not the only one
The sky too is lit by the moon
آج تاروں کی بزم چمکی ہے
چاند پر بادلوں کا سایا ہے
The cluster of stars is resplendent today
The moon is covered by the shadow of the clouds
روشنی پھوٹ نکلی مصرعوں سے
چاند کو جب غزل میں سوچا ہے
Rediance burst out of my verses
When I potray the moon in my ghazals
