Dedicated to Chinese poet Yang Su, who, when imprisoned by then ruler Chiang Kai-Shek, wrote the poem 'Twenty Years in Prison', a piece from that poem reads, 'It's likely that I won't be able to see the Sun for the next Twnety years, but, this cold reign of yours which is moving towards its demise at the speed of lightning, would it be able to survive the next twenty years?'
ख़बर नहीं कि बला-ख़ाना-ए-सलासिल में
तिरी हयात-ए-सितम-आश्ना पे क्या गुज़री
ख़बर नहीं कि निगार-ए-सहर की हसरत में
तमाम रात चराग़-ए-वफ़ा पे क्या गुज़री
मगर वो देख फ़ज़ा में ग़ुबार सा उट्ठा
वो तेरे सुर्ख़ जवानों के राहवार आए
नज़र उठा कि वो तेरे वतन के मेहनत-कश
गले से कोहना ग़ुलामी का तौक़ उतार आए
उफ़ुक़ पे सुब्ह-ए-बहाराँ की आमद आमद है
फ़ज़ा में सुर्ख़ फरेरों के फूल खिलते हैं
ज़मीन ख़ंदा-ब-लब है शफ़ीक़ माँ की तरह
कि उस की गोद में बिछड़े रफ़ीक़ मिलते हैं
शिकस्त-ए-मजलिस-ओ-ज़िन्दाँ का वक़्त आ पहुँचा
वो तेरे ख़्वाब हक़ीक़त में ढाल आए हैं
नज़र उठा कि तिरे देस की फ़ज़ाओं पर
नई बहार नई जन्नतों के साए में
दरीदा-तन है वो क़हबा-ए-सीम-ओ-ज़र जिस को
बहुत सँभाल के लाए थे शातिरान-ए-कुहन
रबाब छेड़ ग़ज़ल-ख़्वाँ हो रक़्स-फ़रमा हो
कि जश्न-ए-नुसरत-ए-मेहनत है जश्न-ए-नुसरत-ए-फ़न
मैं तुझ से दूर सही लेकिन ऐ रफ़ीक़ मिरे
तिरी वफ़ा को मिरी जेहद-ए-मुस्तक़िल का सलाम
तिरे वतन को तिरी अर्ज़-ए-बा-हमीयत को
धड़कते खौलते हिन्दोस्ताँ के दिल का सलाम
