zindagī kyā hai anāsir meñ zuhūr-e-tartīb

maut kyā hai inhīñ ajzā pareshāñ honā

zindagi kya hai anasir mein zuhur-e-tartib

maut kya hai inhin ajza ka pareshan hona

agar dard-e-mohabbat se na insāñ āshnā hotā

na kuchh marne ġham hotā na jiine mazā hotā

agar dard-e-mohabbat se na insan aashna hota

na kuchh marne ka gham hota na jine ka maza hota

adab ta.alīm jauhar hai zevar hai javānī

vahī shāgird haiñ jo ḳhidmat-e-ustād karte haiñ

adab talim ka jauhar hai zewar hai jawani ka

wahi shagird hain jo KHidmat-e-ustad karte hain

vatan ḳhaak se mar kar bhī ham ko uns baaqī hai

mazā dāmān-e-mādar hai is miTTī ke dāman meñ

watan ki KHak se mar kar bhi hum ko uns baqi hai

maza daman-e-madar ka hai is miTTi ke daman mein

ik silsila havas hai insāñ zindagī

is ek musht-e-ḳhāk ko ġham do-jahāñ ke haiñ

ek silsila hawas ka hai insan ki zindagi

is ek musht-e-KHak ko gham do-jahan ke hain

gunah-gāroñ meñ shāmil haiñ gunāhoñ se nahīñ vāqif

sazā ko jānte haiñ ham ḳhudā jaane ḳhatā kyā hai

gunah-garon mein shamil hain gunahon se nahin waqif

saza ko jaante hain hum KHuda jaane KHata kya hai

ek sāġhar bhī ināyat na huā yaad rahe

sāqiyā jaate haiñ mahfil tirī ābād rahe

ek saghar bhi inayat na hua yaad rahe

saqiya jate hain mahfil teri aabaad rahe

mazā hai ahd-e-javānī meñ sar paTakne

lahū meñ phir ye ravānī rahe rahe na rahe

maza hai ahd-e-jawani mein sar paTakne ka

lahu mein phir ye rawani rahe rahe na rahe

nayā bismil huuñ maiñ vāqif nahīñ rasm-e-shahādat se

batā de ai zālim taḌapne adā kyā hai

naya bismil hun main waqif nahin rasm-e-shahadat se

bata de tu hi ai zalim taDapne ki ada kya hai

jo kahe to shikāyat zikr kam kar deñ

magar yaqīñ tire va.adoñ pe nahīñ sakte

jo tu kahe to shikayat ka zikr kam kar den

magar yaqin tere wadon pe la nahin sakte

ḳhudā ne ilm baḳhshā hai adab ahbāb karte haiñ

yahī daulat hai merī aur yahī jāh-o-hasham merā

KHuda ne ilm baKHsha hai adab ahbab karte hain

yahi daulat hai meri aur yahi jah-o-hasham mera

is ko nā-qadrī-e-ālam sila kahte haiñ

mar chuke ham to zamāne ne bahut yaad kiyā

is ko na-qadri-e-alam ka sila kahte hain

mar chuke hum to zamane ne bahut yaad kiya

zabān-e-hāl se ye lucknow ḳhaak kahtī hai

miTāyā gardish-e-aflāk ne jāh-o-hasham merā

zaban-e-haal se ye lucknow ki KHak kahti hai

miTaya gardish-e-aflak ne jah-o-hasham mera

ye kaisī bazm hai aur kaise us ke saaqī haiñ

sharāb haath meñ hai aur pilā nahīñ sakte

azīzān-e-vatan ko ġhuncha o barg o samar jaanā

ḳhudā ko bāġhbāñ aur qaum ko ham ne shajar jaanā

kiyā hai faash parda kufr-o-dīñ is qadar maiñ ne

ki dushman hai barhaman aur adū shaiḳh-e-haram merā

hai mirā zabt-e-junūñ josh-e-junūñ se baḌh kar
