Muhammad Mumtaz Rashid was born on 25 November 1953 in Lahore. His father was Muhammad Shafi. He received his early education in Lahore and later graduated with a B.A. from Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad. He also pursued training in draftsman ship, computer studies and Arabic. Professionally, he worked with various institutions in Pakistan and Qatar and served for several years in Qatar’s Ministry of Electricity and Water. He began writing poetry in 1976 and became associated with Halqa-e-Arbab-e-Zauq in 1977. Since 1987, he has been based in Qatar, where he has remained actively involved in literary activities. In 1995, he established the literary organisation “Khayal-e-Watan” to promote literary and cultural activities. His poetry and other writings have appeared in various literary journals in Pakistan and abroad. His published works include Sehra Ki Thandi Shaam, Kaun, Aqeedat Nama, Teri Khushboo Dil Mahkati Hai, Tohfa, Hum Hain Apne Mizaaj Ke Bande, Lahore Ke Naye Purane Rang, Nazm-e-Natiq, Ek Baat Mohabbat Ki, Tera Jadoo Bol Raha Hai and Madhat-e-Sarai, among others.
