Profile of Mohsin Usmani Nadvi
Identity: Arabic and Urdu Writer, Critic, and Translator
Mohsin Usmani Nadvi was born in 1947 in Gaya, Bihar. He obtained his 'Alimiyah' degree from Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, 'Fazilah' from Darul Uloom Deoband, M.A. from Patna University, and a Ph.D. from Jamia Millia Islamia.
He is an accomplished writer, critic, researcher, and journalist of both Urdu and Arabic languages. During his academic career, he rendered teaching services at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi University, and The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad. He also served as the Head of the Arabic Department at Delhi University. Additionally, he worked as a Custodian at the Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library in Patna and as a translator for All India Radio.
The number of publications by Mohsin Usmani Nadvi exceeds forty. Among his prominent Urdu books are "Mutala-e-Mazahib", "Haditha-e-Karbala Aur Us Ka Pasmanzar", "Mutala-e-Sher-o-Adab", "Mutala-e-Tasneefat Maulana Syed Abul Hasan Ali Nadvi", "Hindustan Mein Isha'at-e-Islam", "Urdu Zaban Ka Tahaffuz Aur Hamari Zimmedariyan", "Duniya Ko Khoob Dekha", "Naqd-e-Sher-o-Adab", "Kitabon Ke Darmiyan", and "Mashahir-e-Uloom-e-Islamia Aur Mufakkirin-o-Musleheen". Several of his works have also been published in the Arabic language.
He has been associated with various academic, literary, and research institutions, and his valuable contributions to Urdu and Arabic language and literature, Islamic studies, and critical evaluations are held in high esteem.
