A الف alif, s.m. The first letter of the Arabic, Persian, and Urdū alphabets:—alifuʼllāh, 'The alif of (the word) allāh'; adj. Alone, friendless, having no friend save God; destitute, poor:—alifuʼllāh-kā ḵẖat̤t̤, The mark of the letter alif made by faqīrs on the forehead (indicative of their separation from worldly concerns, &c.):—alif-be, s.f.
