A شافعی shāfěʻī (rel. n. fr. shāfěʻ), s.m. Name of the Imām Abū-ʻabduʼl-lah Moḥammad-bin-Idrīs, one of the chiefs of the four principal sects of the Moḥammadan religion;—a follower of the Imām Shāfeʻī.

A شفيع shafīʻ (v.n. fr. شفع; see shafāʻat, and shufʻa), s.m. Intercessor; advocate, patron;—a possessor of the right of pre-emption, one who demands and obtains, as a neighbour (or a partner), the right of purchasing a house, or a piece of land, that is to be sold:—shafīʻ-ě-jār, s.m. The occupant of ground which is simply in the neighbourhood of another estate:—shafīʻ-ě-ḵẖalīt̤, s.m. The occupant of ground in actual contact, or intermixed with, another estate (the right of pre-emption is stronger in the latter than in the former case).

To make smack-smooth, to lick (a platter) perfectly clean; to make a clean shave of, to shave clean.
