Profile of Mushtaque Ahmad
Identity: Critic, Researcher, Columnist, Poet, and Editor of the Research Journal “Jahan-e-Urdu”
Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad was born on 21 November 1967 in Sakri, a town in the Madhubani district of Bihar, India. He comes from a family with strong traditions in both agriculture and education. His father, Abdul Hakim, was a school teacher in the Indian Railways education system, while several other family members were also associated with teaching. This scholarly environment nurtured his early interest in learning and research.
Dr. Ahmad received his initial religious education at home and later studied in local maktabs and educational institutions in Sakri. He completed his schooling at S.K. High School, Pandaul (Madhubani), graduated from R.N. College, and earned a postgraduate degree in Mass Communication from Delhi. Owing to his deep attachment to Urdu language and literature, he went on to obtain an M.A. in Urdu, a Ph.D., and qualified the NET and JRF examinations.
In 1996, he was appointed as a Lecturer in Urdu at H.S. College, Madhepura. Alongside teaching, he established himself in the fields of research, literary criticism, and journalism. He later served as Principal of Millat College, Darbhanga, held principalships at various colleges, and also served as Registrar of Mithila University. He is currently serving as the Principal of C.M. College, Darbhanga.
Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad is regarded as a distinguished scholar of Urdu research and criticism. More than two dozen of his books have been published, and his academic and literary work continues actively. His notable works include Tanqeedi Baseerat, Tanqeed ke Taqaze, Masnavi Dar-e-Shahwar: A Critical Study, Iqbal ki Asri Manaviyat, Bihar mein Urdu Tahqiq-o-Tanqeed, Aaina Hairan Hai, and Zard Mausam ki Nazmein.
He has also maintained a strong association with journalism and column writing. Since the 1980s, his articles and columns have appeared in numerous newspapers and literary journals. Collections of his columns have been published under the titles Jahan-e-Fikr, Charagh-e-Fikr, and Aiwan-e-Fikr. Since 2001, he has been editing the research journal Jahan-e-Urdu, which is considered an important publication in the field of Urdu scholarship.
Dr. Ahmad has also been actively engaged in poetry since his student days. He received guidance in poetry from Ustad Fatah Muhammad Mehr Shakri and Abul Qais Qaiser. His poetry reflects intellectual sensitivity, social awareness, and engagement with contemporary issues.
For his contributions to education, research, journalism, and social reform, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad is widely respected in academic and literary circles.
