Profile of Sayed Shuja Ahmad Qaid
Born : 21 Jun 1919 | Bilgram, Uttar pradesh
Identity: Sayed Shuja Ahmad Qaid was a prominent figure in Urdu broadcasting, drama, and literature. He was born on 21 June 1919 in Bilgram into a landlord family. After losing his father in childhood, he shared family responsibilities with his mother at an early age.
He earned degrees in Persian (Munshi Fazil), Urdu (Adeeb Fazil), and Arabic (Maulvi Fazil), completed Intermediate studies from Lahore, and also gained proficiency in Hindi and Sanskrit. In his early career, he worked as a translator and humorous columnist for newspapers.
In 1938, he entered the world of broadcasting and began a new phase of his life. He emerged as a successful speaker, actor, and a person well-versed in music. Although he wrote poetry, he stayed away from mushairas (poetry gatherings).
He acted in nearly 1,500 radio features and dramas, directed over 1,000 plays, and wrote more than 500 dramas and sketches. Due to his significant contributions to children’s programs, he was honored with the title “Qaid-e-Nasl-e-Nau” (Leader of the New Generation).
He passed away on 4 May 1968 in Hyderabad at the age of 49. His services to Urdu broadcasting and literature remain a lasting legacy.
