Prominent poet, writer, and journalist, Nashtar Khanqahi was born in 1931 at a place called Jehanabad in the Bijnaur district of Uttar Pradesh. Although he completed his school education in Bijnaur, he could not continue his studies any further and sought for a job for which he shifted to Delhi. Here, he started his career as a journalist and edited well-known magazines like Shahraah, Sau Baras, and Mushahede,. He also published his poetry and essays in Hindi journals. Later, he came to Bombay where he got associated with the daily Jamhuriat. His engagement as a journalist is also reflected in his poetry which appears like a keen commentary on the socio-political conditions of his times. Khanqahi published several collections of his poetry both in Urdu and Hindi. Some of these are: Mere Lahu ki Aag, Dastaras, Sarai Mein Shaam, Manzar-o-Pas-e-Manzar, Maloom Namaloom, Mausam ki Baisakhiyaan, Kaise aur Kyun, and Kaise Kaise Log Miley. He passed away on March 07, 2006.
