us bevafā shahr hai aur vaqt-e-shām hai

aaise meñ aarzū baḌī himmat kaam hai

us bewafa ka shahr hai aur waqt-e-sham hai

aaise mein aarzu baDi himmat ka kaam hai

dil meñ nafrat ho to chehre pe bhī le aatā huuñ

bas isī baat se dushman mujhe pahchān ga.e

pareshan karne wale KHair-KHwahon mein bhi hote hain

do chaar nahīñ saiñkaḌoñ sher us pe kahe haiñ

is par bhī vo samjhe na to qadmoñ pe jhukeñ kyā

do chaar nahin sainkaDon sher us pe kahe hain

is par bhi wo samjhe na to qadmon pe jhuken kya

ghar meñ bechainī ho to agle safar sochnā

phir safar nākām ho jaa.e to ghar sochnā

ghar mein bechaini ho to agle safar ki sochna

phir safar nakaam ho jae to ghar ki sochna

dard jā.egā to kuchh kuchh jā.egā par dekhnā

chain jab jā.egā to saarā saarā jā.egā

dard jaega to kuchh kuchh jaega par dekhna

'shujā.a' maut se pahle zarūr lenā

ye kaam bhuul na jaanā baḌā zarūrī hai

'shujaa' maut se pahle zarur ji lena

ye kaam bhul na jaana baDa zaruri hai

isī par ḳhush haiñ ki ik dūsre ke saath rahte haiñ

abhī tanhā.ī matlab nahīñ samjhe haiñ ghar vaale

isi par KHush hain ki ek dusre ke sath rahte hain

abhi tanhai ka matlab nahin samjhe hain ghar wale

jo zinda ho use to maar dete haiñ jahāñ vaale

jo marnā chāhtā ho us ko zinda chhoḌ dete haiñ

jo marna chahta ho us ko zinda chhoD dete hain

jaisā manzar mile gavārā kar

tabsire chhoḌ de nazārā kar

jaisa manzar mile gawara kar

tabsire chhoD de nazara kar

zindagī bhar zinda rahne yahī tarkīb hai

us taraf jaanā nahīñ bilkul jidhar sochnā

zindagi bhar zinda rahne ki yahi tarkib hai

us taraf jaana nahin bilkul jidhar ki sochna

tanhā.ī ik aur maza luuT rahā huuñ

mehmān mire ghar meñ bahut aa.e hue haiñ

tanhai ka ek aur maza luT raha hun

mehman mere ghar mein bahut aae hue hain

hazār rañg meñ mumkin hai dard iz.hār

tire firāq meñ marnā kyā zarūrī hai

hazar rang mein mumkin hai dard ka izhaar

tere firaq mein marna hi kya zaruri hai

sardī bhī ḳhatm ho ga.ī barsāt bhī ga.ī

aur is ke saath garmi-e-jazbāt bhī ga.ī

sardi bhi KHatm ho gai barsat bhi gai

aur is ke sath garmi-e-jazbaat bhi gai

us ko na ḳhayāl aa.e to ham muñh se kaheñ kyā

vo bhī to mile ham se hamīñ us se mileñ kyā

us ko na KHayal aae to hum munh se kahen kya

wo bhi to mile hum se hamin us se milen kya

karam hai mujh pe kisī aur ke jalāne ko

vo shaḳhs mujh pe koī mehrbān thoḌī hai

sab naam lete haiñ ik tujh ko chhoḌ kar

ḳhāsā shu.ūr hai hameñ vahshat ke bāvajūd

KHasa shuur hai hamein wahshat ke bawajud

us ke bayān se hue har-dil-azīz ham

ġham ko samajh rahe the chhupāne chiiz ham

us ke bayan se hue har-dil-aziz hum

gham ko samajh rahe the chhupane ki chiz hum

be-ārzū bhī ḳhush haiñ zamāne meñ baaz log

yaañ aarzū ke saath bhī jiinā harām hai

be-arzu bhi KHush hain zamane mein baz log

yan aarzu ke sath bhi jina haram hai

sabhī zindagī pe farefta koī maut par nahīñ shefta

sabhī sūd-ḳhor to ho ga.e haiñ koī paThān nahīñ rahā

sabhi zindagi pe farefta koi maut par nahin shefta

sabhi sud-KHor to ho gae hain koi paThan nahin raha

ham sūfiyoñ donoñ taraf se ziyāñ huā

irfān-e-zāt bhī na huā raat bhī ga.ī

hum sufiyon ka donon taraf se ziyan hua

irfan-e-zat bhi na hua raat bhi gai

vasl huā par dil meñ tamannā

jaisī thī vaisī rakkhī hai

wasl hua par dil mein tamanna

jaisi thi waisi rakkhi hai

auroñ se pūchhiye to haqīqat pata chale

tanhā.ī meñ to zaat irfān ho chukā

auron se puchhiye to haqiqat pata chale

tanhai mein to zat ka irfan ho chuka

tañgī-e-hai.at se Takrātā huā josh-e-mavād

shā.erī lutf aa jaatā hai chhoTī bahr meñ

tangi-e-haiat se Takraata hua josh-e-mawad

shaeri ka lutf aa jata hai chhoTi bahr mein

rind khaḌe haiñ mimbar mimbar

aur vaa.iz ne rakkhī hai

rind khaDe hain mimbar mimbar

aur waiz ne pi rakkhi hai

ye duniyā-dārī aur irfān daavā 'shujā-ḳhāvar'

miyāñ irfān ho jaa.e to duniyā chhoḌ dete haiñ

ye duniya-dari aur irfan ka dawa 'shuja-KHawar'

miyan irfan ho jae to duniya chhoD dete hain

jin ko qudarat hai taḳhayyul par unheñ dikhtā nahīñ

jin āñhkeñ Thiik haiñ un ko taḳhayyul chāhiye

jin ko qudarat hai taKHayyul par unhen dikhta nahin

jin ki aanhken Thik hain un ko taKHayyul chahiye
