Maulana Akbar Shah Najibabadi is counted among the eminent scholars and writers of the Indian subcontinent who rendered significant services in the fields of history, biography (Seerat), society, and literature. His writings are marked by intellectual breadth, scholarly integrity, and a simple yet effective style, which earned him recognition as a Credible historian of his time.

Maulana Akbar Shah Najibabadi was born in 1857 in Najibabad (District Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh). After completing his early education, he joined the field of teaching and served as a mudarris in the Department of Education around 1878–79.

Between 1906 and 1914, he stayed in Qadian and came under the influence of Qadianism. During this period, he developed close relations with Hakim Nooruddin and wrote the first part of his biography titled “Marqat al-Yaqeen fi Hayat Nooruddin.” He also served as the superintendent of the hostel at Madrasa Taleem-ul-Islam in Qadian and remained engaged in teaching.

However, after the death of Hakim Nooruddin in 1914, circumstances changed, and Maulana Akbar Shah Najibabadi distanced himself from Qadianism. He remained associated for a short period with the Lahori group, but soon dissociated from it as well and fully returned to Islam. After this intellectual journey, his life became devoted to research, writing, and religious and scholarly services.

Following his separation, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to academic and literary work. He authored around thirty books, among which “Tarikh-e-Islam” is the most prominent and is considered an important contribution to Urdu historiography. His other works on Seerat and Islamic history are also highly regarded.

His writings were appreciated by contemporary scholars, including thinkers like Allama Iqbal. His style was simple, engaging, and accessible, enabling him to reach a wide readership.

Death: He passed away on 10 May 1938 in Najibabad (Uttar Pradesh).
