Profile of Asma Ajmal
Born : 21 Nov 1974
Dr. Asma Ajmal was born on 21 November 1974 into a scholarly, literary, and religious family. She belongs to a lineage deeply rooted in knowledge and literature. The pioneering Punjabi novelist, the late Miran Bakhsh Manhas, was her maternal great-grandfather.
Her father, Rana Muhammad Ajmal Khan, served as a teacher in federal government institutions and remained actively involved in literary circles. Her mother, Begum Farhat Hijazi, though a homemaker, dedicated nearly fifty years to teaching Nazira and the translation of the Holy Qur’an. Her Hajj travelogue has been published under the title “Karam ke Moti.”
Dr. Asma Ajmal developed a passion for writing at an early age. Her recognition as a writer began when her pieces started appearing on the women’s page of the daily Nawai Waqt. In 2013, her collection of columns titled “Meri Aawaz Suno” was published and received considerable appreciation.
Her second book, “Hashim aur Bajra,” is a novel set against the rural backdrop of Punjab. Marked by simplicity, spontaneity, and emotionally engaging dialogues, the novel reflects a deep understanding of rural Punjabi life. Owing to its diverse qualities, it promises to be a satisfying read for its audience.
