Professor Sajjad Ahsan was an Indian writer, Sufi poet, and educationist, known for his deep association with the Sufi tradition and his devotion to revered saints. A disciple of Hazrat Syed Shah Ahsanul Hoda Qadri, the third Sajjadanasheen of Khanqah-e-Shakiriya, Pind Sharif, Sheikhpura, his spiritual inclination found a natural expression in his literary work.

He was born as Muhammad Sajjad Quraishi on 27 January 1937 at Jarnadi Bazar, Bermo, in present-day Bokaro district, Jharkhand, to Noor Muhammad Quraishi and Zahra Khatoon. He received his early education at Ram Bilas High School, Bermo, and completed his Intermediate in Science from St. Columba’s College, Hazaribagh. In reverence to his spiritual guide, he later adopted “Ahsan” as part of his name.

He pursued higher studies at Calcutta University, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. Professionally, he was associated with technical education and served in various capacities, including Superintendent of Electricity and Foreman Instructor at BIT Sindri, Dhanbad, where he later joined as a Professor. He retired from BIT Sindri after a distinguished academic career.

Alongside his professional life, Sajjad Ahsan remained devoted to writing, particularly Sufi poetry, reflecting his spiritual depth and refined literary sensibility.

He passed away on 8 June 2011 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
