qismat to dekh TuuTī hai kar kahāñ kamand

kuchh duur apne haath se jab baam rah gayā

qismat to dekh TuTi hai ja kar kahan kamand

kuchh dur apne hath se jab baam rah gaya

koī din aage bhī zāhid ajab zamāna thā

har ik mohalle masjid sharāb-ḳhāna thā

koi din aage bhi zahid ajab zamana tha

har ek mohalle ki masjid sharab-KHana tha

duniyā meñ ham rahe to ka.ī din pa is tarah

dushman ke ghar meñ jaise koī mehmāñ rahe

I did stay in this world but twas in such a way

a guest who in the house of his enemy does stay

duniya mein hum rahe to kai din pa is tarah

dushman ke ghar mein jaise koi mehman rahe

I did stay in this world but twas in such a way

a guest who in the house of his enemy does stay

dil ke us zulf meñ ārām rah gayā

darvesh jis jagah ki huī shaam rah gayā

TRANSLATION

Heart found comfort and stayed on in her tresses,

As an ascetic stays wherever on the nightfall he is.

ġhair se milnā tumhārā sun ke go ham chup rahe

par sunā hogā ki tum ko ik jahāñ ne kyā kahā

ghair se milna tumhaara sun ke go hum chup rahe

par suna hoga ki tum ko ek jahan ne kya kaha
